On 8 July 2010 an exhibit titled “Joseph Beyrle: The Hero for Two Nations” was opened at the Pskov Kremlin. The event was dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the victory of allied forces in World War II. Sgt. Joseph Beyrle stands out as the highest example of cooperation between the United States and the Soviet Union. He is one of the few soldiers to fight in both the American and Soviet armies during World War II. Bayrle's battle path is a story of honor, character and courage: from parachuting into Normandy, to being imprisoned in Nazi prison camps, to a miraculous escape to the Soviet army. On display were over 260 items of Joseph Beyrle’s personal wartime items, including his uniform, medals, extensive correspondence and photo and video documentation of his life. Exhibit commemorated Joseph Beyerle and celebrated US-Russian cooperation during World War II. |
